City Model

Haus der Stadtgeschichte

Waiblingen (DE)

2014

The "Großes Haus" in Waiblingen is the oldest building in the picturesque half-timbered town in Baden-Württemberg. Since 2014, it has been home to the House of City History. On behalf of the Stuttgart architects Space4, we turned three rooms into audio-visual experiences. The main attraction of the museum is the city model of Waiblingen. We brought it to life with projections onto the model and a lively audio play which narrates the development of the city from its beginnings to the present day. Visitors experience the expansion of Waiblingen beyond the Ems river, the construction of roads, and how first the railway and later cars conquered the city. History as an experience!

About

In another room, church bells, ticking clocks, hourly prayers and other "time noises" combine to form an orchestral piece of music, combining modern rhythm and classical music in an outstanding way.

In the third and final room, visitors experience individual stories of the former residents of the "Big House" in a subtle and haunting way, told through an audio play. In four interconnected episodes, visitors are immersed in times long past, experiencing at first hand significant events as well as small and very personal stories.
