XXHL, Giga Tours et Mega Ponts

Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie - Universcience

Paris (FR)

2020

Contractors are aiming for the stars with ever taller residential and office towers. Worldwide, there are now at least 18 buildings which measure more than half a kilometre high, with the Burj Khalifa in Dubai breaking all records with its incredible height of 828 metres. The sky is no longer the limit, and visionary architecture continues to require new construction methods and innovative materials. In the immersive and interactive temporary exhibition "XXHL, giga tours et méga ponts", which ran at the Cité des Sciences et de l’industrie in Paris until March 2021, we took a look behind the scenes of these radical giants.

About

TMS conceived and realised the project as general contractor on behalf of Universcience. Together with renowned experts, we translated the requirements of this kind of architecture into a comprehensible media scenography, with before-and-after simulations and audio-visual 360° projections. In this way, visitors were transformed from viewers to actors, learning to understand the complex challenges that stand before the construction of these architectural giants. With the help of elaborate projections, architectural models and an augmented reality app, the exhibition illustrated how higher resistance of building materials and the optimisation of the balance of forces within a building have become the keys to the construction of the future.
