BW Lounge

Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg

Stuttgart (DE)

2004

The BW Lounge installation in the Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg looks from the outside like a moving light object whose transparent walls visitors have to pass through to enter. Inside, multi-layered projection gauzes arranged high in the room, form an atmospheric, media-based cultural stage. Like holograms, the film images on the almost invisible fabric panels create an almost haptic, three-dimensional materiality. Floating in transparent Bubblechairs, visitors experience a 30-minute film collage with unique historical testimonies from the collection of Südwest-Rundfunk.

About

The projection of a 360-degree helicopter flight over the landscapes of the federal state forms the background of the collage. Like visions or dream sequences, snapshots appear, statements by well-known cultural figures from Baden-Württemberg in the fields of art, theatre, music and film, before they just as suddenly disappear again. Dream dancers and acrobats, philosophers and poets, chatterers and other artists provide an insight into the lively cultural panorama of the federal state. They negotiate questions about the meaning of choreography, spatial art, theatre and film and involve the visitors in this fictional dialogue. The people and their personal statement on their work and art are the central factor of this installation.
