Visual Symphony

BMW AG

Munich (DE)

2008

The "Bowl", the circular building directly below Munich's BMW Tower, the "Four Cylinder", is one of Germany's most exclusive architectural icons. Architect Karl Schwanzer designed the museum in 1973 as a "continuation of the street in enclosed space". Inside, a central visitor ramp connects a system of suspended platforms to form a gigantic, column-free, circular space containing four levels, with a total radius of 120 metres and a height of six metres. On the circular wall around the top level of the platforms, we staged a visual 360° symphony as the highlight of the visitors' tour, revealing the soul and spirit of BMW.

About

Accompanied by sounds from a special surround system, we dynamically set the room in motion and visually extended it into the far distance. By using the tempo of the classical symphony Adagio and Allegro, the narrative was acoustically underscored. Visual and acoustic associations were put together by visitors to form their very own visions. Like a symphony of the Viennese classical period, the entire film consisted of four movements that transported visitors into another world. The aim of the production was to present the products "automobile" and "motorbike" in a dynamic context and to anchor lasting memories in visitors' minds through multimedia design.
