Göbeklitepe Discovery

Doğuş Group

Davos (CH)

2016

Göbeklitepe is a prehistoric site in southern Anatolia. The Şahenk Foundation and the Doğuş Group presented their commitment to the cultural heritage of this 11,600-year-old site with an immersive installation at the World Economic Forum 2016 in Davos. In an audio-visual production, we visualised various archaeological and cultural-historical hypotheses with speculative, suggestive images: What if mankind's civilisation developed from a primal need for cultic action and religion and not the other way around? Was Göbeklitepe the beginning of all spirituality?

About

In a 360° projection on gauze surfaces, visitors were immersed in fictional scenes that brought the world of our early ancestors to life. In cinematic representations of archaic hunting scenes, ecstatic rites, experiences of inspiration and enlightenment, they became part of a mystical spectacle. The eight-minute show integrated artistically alienated live action footage into animated sceneries. Our production was the highlight of a two-hour programme with music, lectures and a live performance.
