2017

It is a long, arduous journey from the first thought, via the first sketch, to the finished automobile. Around this and the intervening processes of research, design and production, a thematic course has been created at the Hyundai Motor Studio in Gyoang, South Korea, the highlight of which is a spectacular kinetic sculpture. We developed and produced its choreography in cooperation with the lead agency Atelier Brückner. Hyundai's design philosophy "Creating Design from Movement" is expressed in this brilliant installation.

About

In the process, the central meaning of the design for Hyundai is virtually cast in aluminium from 1,411 rods moving up and down. The sculpture is in dynamic correspondence with a video tape running around it. In a four-minute performance, the structure comes to life, learns the formal language of nature and finally forms itself into a driving Hyundai in contemporary design. The choreography gives visitors a feeling for the language of form and design processes, which consist of the constant alternation of creation and discarding before the product is finally finished.
