Light Cloud

Merck Innovation Center

Darmstadt (DE)

2018

For the new Innovation Centre of the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, we designed the expansive light installation "Light Cloud" from 576 OLEDs. The aim was to make the invisible processes of the flow of ideas and the resulting innovations of the company tangible. In an endlessly reflecting hall of mirrors, the sculpture of light and sound creates a smart system that interacts and communicates constantly with visitors with the help of sensors and through the movements of people in the room. Emotions and memory images merge in the millions of reflections of the "Light Cloud" to create an audio-visual synthesis of the arts.

About

The multimedia choreography is intended to give the visitor the impression of a living organism. Cognitive and emotional states such as sleeping, dreaming, remembering, feeling and thinking form the conceptual framework of the production. The sculpture captures the movements of the visitors in the space and translates them into different light and sound atmospheres. The certainty of everyday life is to be questioned, because only in this manner innovation can arise. In the force field of the "Light Cloud", things can be rethought and processes recombined.
