About

The mountain station of the cable car to the Jungfraujoch towers almost 3,400 metres above sea level. After a long ride on the cable car, visitors are rewarded with a magnificent view over the countless peaks of a sea of rocks, weather permitting. However, the numerous visitors who travel up here every year with great expectations are often confronted with a wall of mist and fog. The Jungfraubahn AG, operator of the cable car, wanted to do something about the disappointed eyes of tourists hungry for experience. Our mission: to create the best possible bad-weather experience. Our goal: to dissolve the boundaries between reality and simulation.

In a disused, unwindowed cave of the mountain station, we created a homage to the majestic beauty of the mountains with an audio-visual 360° staging. On the crystalline wall surfaces, a cinematic Alpine panorama of unique poetic beauty unfolds to an orchestral soundtrack, as realistic as a view out of the window. The 360° camera technology developed especially for this project enables perspectives which were previously denied to the human eye, such as the view inside a crevasse, a look over the jagged edges of mountain formations, or the approach of a snow avalanche.
