THREE GRACES
Walk-in sample book archive. The treasure of the Augsburg calico factory, consisting of 500 books with 1.3 million fabric samples, is enhanced by a media installation.
Centrepieces of the installation are the Three Graces – three sculptures with a height of 4 metres each, slowly rotating. By projecting different patterns on them, they transpose this abundance of textile designs into the third dimension and let them come alive interactively. With their corporeal nature and size they symbolise beauty, grace and joy in the many colours and patterns. Small structures, the beauty of which could not previously be reasonably conveyed to the visitors, are visually exaggerated in their dimensions and thus given a new focus. By means of artistic film sequences, coordinated sound effects and interactive interfaces, the user himself becomes part of the installation and can completely immerse into the world of patterns, presented this extensively for the first time.
