NATIONAL PARK CENTRE
Large format nature scenes captivate the visitor, emotionally engaging them in a brand new kind of museum experience. The interactive information center with its vast 17.000sqm allows visitors to discover all aspects of the national park Berchtesgaden’s eco system. The house hosts the permanent exhibition „Vertikale Wildnis (vertical wildernis)“, which was designed by ATELIER BRÜCKNER and brings nature to the visitor’s fingertips. The four seasons, each appearing in 3-minute intervals, are atmospherically staged with light and film and supported by nature sounds characteristic of the Alpine environment. Whoever wants to feel like a beetle in the grass or experience breathtaking time-lapse sequences of the Berchtesgaden Alps on a visual and acoustic level, is in store for a special media highlight: a 10x15 m spatial projection installation that opens up to the real life panorama of the Alps.
Going above and under water, the awe-striking perspectives travel through the four seasons along pastures, forests and over the snowy summits of the national park. Visitors can experience interviews with local mountain farmers or the biodiversity of the native flora and fauna at the various interactive media stations. The media installations do not intend to imitate nature, but far more offer exceptional perspectives of the national park Berchtesgaden and insights into its micro worlds.
