EVENT SCENOGRAPHY

Hospital de Sant Pau | Barcelona (ES) | 2014

For the centennial celebration of Puig, one of the world‘s most influential perfume empires, the visual, spatial and poetic embodiment of scent was artistically interpreted and staged at the Hospital de Sant Pau, Barcelona‘s most prized modernist architectural treasure. The four seasons were the protagonists, visually determining the imagery and dramaturgy of the evening. Centred in the main hall was the highlight, the "Source of Scent", a real water basin with dry ice serving as a mystical projection surface. The mirror floating above the source not only reflected the projections beneath, but also mirrored the surrounding architecture dressed in real flowers. An immersive triptych made of fine gauze enhanced the architectural dimensions of Sant Pau‘s historic ambience. The 350 guests, mainly fashion entrepreneurs and Spanish celebrities, could either walk through or reside in the installation.

The semi-transparent fabric and visuals extended and created unique spatial scenarios, blurring the guests' perception of inner and outer spaces. Projections bounced off the triangular mirrors on the floor, extending the installation throughout the space, immersing the event in fleeting refractions and reflections. Scattered throughout the space were little projections to be discovered. Hanging from the ceiling, they surprised anyone who walked underneath them, gracing the guests‘ hands with little animations from drops of perfume to whispering mouths. A sensual time travel through the seasons with scent, poetic imagery, atmospheric sound collages and real flowers and plants.
